Student Leaders at LUU
We’re home to student representatives who make change on your behalf at different levels – right up at the top are your elected Student Executive Officers who lead the Union for the year. Our student leaders are a mix of elected and appointed members, and most roles last for one academic year – you can see all the positions available through application and appointment here and all live elections here.

The Student Executive Officers
LUU is led by six full-time Student Executive Officers elected annually by you, our members, in LeadLUU – one of the biggest student elections in the country. They make sure that you’re represented at the highest levels of University and Union decision making.

Community Reps
Community Reps are appointed to be the voice of students in their community, whether they live locally or commute. They lobby for action on issues affecting students in two key areas: Housing and Environment, and work to strengthen the sense of belonging of students in the community by running campaigns, events and projects. They bring the student voice to Better Leeds Forum.

Academic Reps
Academic Representatives (School, Course and PGR Reps) are student leaders appointed by LUU or the University, who are empowered to make positive, student-led change within their School or course. They represent the views of their peers, and work alongside staff to make the Leeds academic experience better.

They’re accountable to the Education and International & Postgraduate Officers and supported by the Academic Engagement Team.
Activities Exec
Each member of the Activities Exec is elected to represent a category of LUU societies – from Performance & Music to Welfare, they have you covered. They make decisions on new society formations, allocate funding and represent the voices of their members at Better Union Forum. You can find out more about them here.
They’re accountable to the Activities & Opportunities Officer and supported by the Activities Team.
Liberation and International Student Network (LISN)
The Liberation and International Student network are a dedicated team of student representatives who help to make LUU more inclusive, representative, empowering and fun for Liberation and International students. There are 7 members representing LUU’s Liberation Groups (Women’s, Trans, Asian, Working-class, Disability, LGBTQ+ and Black) and 7 members who represent international students. The team has an intersectional approach when working together to hold events, run campaigns. The LISN group are here advocate for the student communities they represent, so if you have an idea, concern or feedback that you would like LUU or the University to hear, they will Listen. They are supported by the Equality and Liberation Exec Officer, the International and Postgraduate Exec Officer and the Political Engagement Team.
