Celebrate 2023

Why we're celebrating
Year after year, students continue to face challenges, and in 2023 they have tackled online learning, industrial action, and the cost of living crisis. But that hasn’t stopped them getting stuck into student life, achieving big things and making difficult times a bit better for their fellow students.
With awards to honour clubs and societies, LUU’s sportspeople, halls of residence and the staff and students who have gone above and beyond, this spring we’ll be celebrating the people and initiatives that make Leeds so brilliant – and we want you to get involved. Whether that’s nominating a friend, show up or tuning in for the ceremonies, you can find everything you need to know below.
The Partnership Awards
Each year we hold the Partnership Awards, celebrating students and staff who have enhanced the Leeds community by embodying the values of The Leeds Partnership. Put simply, we want to hear from you about the people who make the Leeds learning experience so brilliant. From Equality and Inclusion, to Feedback and Assessment, the Partnership Awards recognise the people who go above and beyond in every area of University life.

The Riley Awards

If your club or society is interested in performing during awards ceremony, you can register via contacting t.gibson@leeds.ac.uk. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to perform at this spectacular event!
With more than 300 clubs and societies doing great things here at LUU, the Riley Awards – which celebrate the very best of our student groups – are a pretty big deal. Often nicknamed the LUU Oscars, these prestigious awards are presented to the clubs and societies that represent everything that’s great about students at the University of Leeds.
Award ceremony: 5 May
The Halls Awards
The Halls Awards are a celebration of the incredible students, Residence Life Assistants (RLAs) and Residence Life Social Committees (RLSCs) that have contributed to their residence community by providing events, opportunities and support to their neighbours.
We want to hear from you about the people that have made a difference to your time in halls, whether that’s the RLSC who put on that great event, the RLA that helped you through a difficult situation or the flatmate that made your year wonderful!
As well as a range of specific RLSC or RLA awards, you’ll also be able to nominate anyone in residences for the Halls Heroes award, to celebrate all the incredible things that halls students do on a daily basis. The halls experience is such a big part of University for so many students, and we’d love to hear from you about those who have made an impact on your time there.

Gryphon Colours Awards

The Gryphon Colours Awards 2023 is the night to highlight the wonderful sports, martial arts and outdoor clubs we have here at Leeds University Union. This year’s awards will take place on Wednesday 10 May at the Refectory from 6pm.
We come together on the night to recognise and celebrate the incredible efforts of our students, teams, volunteers, coaches and everyone involved in our Leeds Sport clubs. Whether they’ve been awesome on the pitch, or made a difference off it, this is your chance to say thanks and recognise them for their achievements.

Celebrating our Student Volunteers
We know that University of Leeds students like to make a difference, and one of the ways you do this is by volunteering.
Whether this is through a Club & Society, at a local school or charity, your volunteering really does have a positive impact on the lives of others and the surrounding community.
On 12 May we will bring student volunteers together to celebrate and say thank you for the difference you’ve made.

Intercultural Ambassadors Showcase

Celebrating students connecting people across cultures
The Intercultural Ambassadors Showcase celebrates the achievements of student ambassadors who’ve dedicated their time and enthusiasm to developing their intercultural skills and helping others benefit from our diverse university community.
We’ll showcase the experiences of students who trained and volunteered together on the Intercultural Ambassadors Programme this year, and the exciting intercultural projects they ran to inspire and connect students and local people.
On 10 May we’ll be celebrating our ambassadors and finding out about the impact of their projects on the many people, young and old, who’ve taken part.
