As of 01 July, we have a brand new Student Exec. The six winners of the Leadership Race Jack, Jess, Zaki, George, Natasha and Chloe are in post and ready to work on the policies that you voted for.
Last month’s general election saw huge engagement from young people, and the year ahead is set to be a challenging and important one for our Exec as they campaign on social and political issues such as immigration, tuition fees and LGBTQ+ rights.
Your 2017/18 Officers are:
This will be Jack’s second year as Union Affairs Officer, after he was re-elected on results night in February. He plans to improve the Union’s democratic structures to make them more inclusive, and he’ll campaign to secure more funding from the University.
George aims to change the culture around house hunting and discourage students from paying unnecessary signing fees.
During her year as Welfare Officer, Chloe will be campaigning to improve support for sexual assault and domestic abuse survivors.
As an active member of Freestyle Dance society, Jess plans to give back to all the students who use the Union and ensure all societies have appropriate space to rehearse and perform.
Natasha will be focusing on improving engagement with the Union by working with the Liberation Coordinators to ensure all students have the best possible experience.
As Education Officer, Zaki plans to campaign to introduce a 24 hr library, as well as ensuring personal tutors are trained on how to deal with mental health issues.
Elected by you, the Exec are ready to get to work and their doors are open, so if you want to talk about an issue that’s bugging you or you have a cause that you’re passionate about and want to kick off a campaign - please do chat to them.
