Summer Party
8 June, 9pm – 4am
Every year, LUU works hard to bring to you Leeds Ball – a fun, inclusive and safe event for all students to celebrate the end of the academic year. This year, a Summer Party will take place instead of Leeds Ball.
This event will be held throughout the LUU building, and will include almost everything we had planned for Leeds Ball – including what will now be the biggest silent disco we’ve ever held, a roller disco, neon mini golf, karaoke, Fruity, DJ’s, Life’s A Drag, live acts and more.
Why are we changing plans?
You might know that there has been a protest encampment on campus since 1 May, to show solidarity with the Palestinian people. It is crucial that students, including those showing solidarity for Palestinian people in the encampment, have the right to freedom of expression. We have been supporting the camp by facilitating conversations with the University, and providing daily wellbeing checks – which we will continue to do.
Leeds Ball usually takes over the campus, and we explored many options to make the Ball happen whilst respecting the right of the encampment to take part in peaceful protest, but came to the conclusion the Ball would need to be cancelled. However, knowing how important it is to celebrate the academic year, we decided to bring the Summer Party to you instead.
