How We Can Help

Our Services & Resources
Uni life is famously full-on, and sometimes it can all get a bit much. From classes and accommodation to money and mental health, things don’t always go according to plan. That’s where we come in.
We’re here to help you with any questions or problems you might have while you are studying at Leeds. We offer expert advice for free to all University of Leeds students, in person, online, or by email.
Our service is confidential, which means we won’t share your private information or talk to anyone about what you have told us. We’re also independent from the University, so if you are having any problems with your course or your School you can talk freely with us – although we do work with the University to find the best solutions, we’ll only tell them what you are happy for us to share.
Our remit is wide, with no problem too big or small, so no matter the issue we’ll work hard to help get it sorted.
Whatever it is, we're here to support you
Whether you’ve got an issue with your deposit, conflict with your housemates, exam results to appeal or financial worries, we can offer practical solutions. We are also here to support you through personal and emotional challenges.
We can help students with pretty much everything, but here are some key areas we’ve supported students with before:
- Living in Leeds, staying safe and any house hunting or renting problems;
- Exam support, appeal procedures or any aspect of studying at Leeds;
- Postgraduate and international student specific queries;
- Budgeting advice and financial support;
- Mental health, relationship and addiction advice.
Sometimes we partner with the University to make it easier for you to get the help you need, for example:
Help with referencing, study skills and avoiding plagiarism:
Reporting a hate incident or harassment online or in person:
Help with emotional wellbeing:
Student testimonials
Here’s what some students had to say about LUU Help & Support:
“I was worried about my friend because he was quiet and seemed stressed out. He told me that he had spent a lot of money on online gambling websites and now he couldn’t pay his fees. I didn’t know how to help him and it was causing me a lot of stress. I emailed LUU Help & Support and they arranged for me to have a confidential conversation with an Adviser, without giving my friend’s name. She listened, and gave me the support and information I needed to help my friend, and myself.”
“I received an email from my School to say that I had been accused of plagiarism. I felt very worried and ashamed, and I didn’t want to tell anyone about it. I saw on LUU Engage that there was an anonymous online Q&A session to help students find out more about plagiarism, so I joined by Zoom. I kept my mic and camera off and did not ask any questions, but I watched while an Adviser talked about plagiarism and what would happen next. I realised I was not alone, and it gave me confidence to ask for help.”
“I was feeling very low and unhappy and I was spending a lot of time alone in my room. I didn’t want my friends and family to worry about me but I knew I needed to get some help. I went to the Counselling and Wellbeing Drop in in LUU- I was able to speak to an Adviser the same day- who helped me to get the support I needed and I feel more positive about things now”.
