The Reason I Jump is a great leap forward in the representation of the non-verbal autistic experience on screen. The film is based on the equally ground-breaking book of the same name, written by the Japanese author Naoki Higashida from his own experience at the age of 13. It blends passages from his writing, discovering what his autism means to him, with intimate portraits of five other remarkable young people in similar situations. The film opens its audience to a different way of perceiving the world.
