The Riley Awards: nominations made simple

It’s really easy to nominate a club or society or put your own forward for a Riley. We get thousands of nominations every year, demonstrating just how wonderful our LUU clubs and societies are. To help you in making the process a little bit easier, we’re created a few pointers for each award to refer back to when submitting your nomination.
The deadline for nominations is 1 April 2022.
Check out below the categories criteria and what to include in each nomination.
Categories criteria
Criteria:
The society must have formed after Easter 2021 – if it was dormant before Easter 2021 and has since reformed, you can also apply for the award.
You cannot apply for both Best New or Reformed Society and Most Improved Society.
Criteria:
Must be a collaboration that two or more groups worked equally on, not ran primarily by one group, during 2021/22.
The collaboration must have started after Easter 2021.
The collaboration can be a single event or a newly established partnership.
Criteria:
Must be a collaboration that two or more groups worked equally on, not ran primarily by one group, during 2021/22.
The collaboration must have been running since before Easter 2021.
The collaboration can be a single recurring event, or a lengthy and developed partnership.
Criteria:
Any club or society that has put on one or more GIAG sessions within the GIAG programme during 2021/22 can apply for this award.
There needs to be evidence of two strong GIAGs, or one stand-out session, that took place online or in person.
Criteria:
For those clubs and societies who made a particular effort to remove barriers to inclusion.
Strands of liberation include; race, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or nationality.
Criteria:
For clubs and societies who made a particular effort to operate sustainably, run sustainable events and/or promoted environmental sustainability.
Activities should be in alignment with LUU’s sustainability strategy.
Criteria:
Must be an existing group that has made significant progression during 2021/22.
You cannot apply for Best New or Reformed Society and Most Improved.
Criteria:
This award is for the group who has best-promoted itself in 2021/22, and used appropriate resources to engage members and non-members in its activity.
Criteria:
This award is for the group who used online spaces for social media campaigns, events or other activities in an engaging and innovative way.
Criteria:
This award is for groups that have taken action to raise awareness on or create change for a specific topic during 2021/22.
This includes larger, longer campaigns, and does not need to be tied to a specific society.
Criteria:
This award is for the club or society that have gone above and beyond in raising money for charitable causes.
The society may have used innovative methods of fundraising to meet their target amounts.
Criteria:
The performance must have taken place since Easter 2021.
The group’s performance must have stood out, been widely publicised and had a large audience.
You cannot apply for both Best Performance and Best Event.
Criteria:
The event must have taken place since Easter 2021 and had under 50 attendees.
You cannot apply for both Best Event and Best Performance.
Criteria:
The event must have taken place since Easter 2021 and had over 50 attendees.
You cannot apply for both Best Event and Best Performance.
Criteria:
This award is for a committee that has gone above and beyond to support their members.
This includes development, wellbeing and member representation.
Criteria:
This is for an individual who has gone above and beyond to help their peers Love their Time at Leeds through engaging with LUU.
Criteria:
One group will be nominated from each category, e.g. Sport, Faith, Volunteering etc.
The overall winner of Best Society will be chosen from the winners of each category.
What to include in the nominations:
What to include:
- The number of society members
- A brief outline of the groups’ KEY events this year and the successes within them
- A highlight of the year as a society (i.e. a challenge you overcame or great success)
- What has the society done to make themselves sustainable for next year?
- Are there any other examples of how the group has gone above and beyond for its members.
What to include:
- An outline of the collaboration – what happened?
- Which groups were involved in this collaboration?
- What was the motivation behind this collaboration? – How and why did this collaboration come about?
- How did it benefit the groups involved?
- What was the outcome?
- What made this collaboration outstanding?
What to include:
- Which groups are involved in this collaboration?
- How has the collaboration between these two (or more) groups improved/achieved more this year?
- Outline how the collaboration was organised
- How did it benefit the groups involved?
- What was the outcome?
- What is outstanding about this collaboration?
What to include:
- What event(s) has the group had in the ‘Give it a Go’ programme this year?
- Give a brief outline of the GIAG event(s) held this year and how the group organised the session(s)
- How many people attended?
- Provide an example of an event targeted at non members.
- How many became members as a result?
What to include:
- A brief outline of how the group promoted inclusivity into your regular activities
- How was this engaging above and beyond the core membership of the group?
- How did the group create an environment that was safe and inclusive to all; particularly liberation categories
What to include:
- A brief outline of ways in which the group has worked to integrate sustainability into its activities
- An outline how the activities have aligned with LUU’s sustainability strategy
- The groups main sustainability aims and how they achieved them
What to include:
- Drawing on comparisons from the previous year’s activity, please outline the areas in which the group has improved
- How did the group go about making improvements?
- How will this improvement be sustained in future years?
The group must have existed before Easter 2021 to be eligible for this award
What to include:
- Briefly outline the strategy undertaken this year to publicise the club or society and its events effectively
- How has the group been creative/unique in their approach to publicity?
- How has the group utilised the online resources provided by LUU and social media to keep members engaged?

- Briefly outline what online activity your the club or society ran
- How has the group been creative/unique in their approach to generating an online presence?
- How has the group utilised the online resources provided by LUU, websites and social media to keep members engaged?

- What platform was used, and how many people attended?
