Melz in front of the co-op mural of them

Former Exec Officer Melz honoured in new Co-op mural

We’re delighted to let you know that a new hand-painted mural created by Co-op has been unveiled in the Union building.

The huge 4.88m x 4.22m mural, featuring Melz – a former LUU Officer, Black LGBTQ academic, activist, and the founder of the Free Black University – was unveiled on Friday 19 November next to the LUU South Entrance.

The mural is one of three around the country, created by Co-op to champion figures who have made an impact on the lives of those living in their local area, and to inspire staff and students on campus to continue positive discussions surrounding diversity and inclusion throughout the year.

We’re so proud of the work Melz has done and continues to do in support of Black Lives Matter UK, decolonising education and trans visibility, and are delighted that they have been immortalised here in the LUU building.
