John – Sports Rep
In your own words, what does being an Activities Exec involve doing every week?
Typically I would spend around 4 hours a week on my role, between attending meetings, talking with my societies and working with LUU and affiliate organisations to improve the student experience.
River – General Interest Rep
What’s been your favourite moment from your year as an Activities Exec?
I very much enjoyed doing focus groups with the other Reps. Getting to hear their views on issues within the Union and being able to ping ideas and thoughts back and forth on how to improve things was both a learning experience and very enjoyable.
What skills have you learnt this year?
I’ve learnt how to handle myself in more formal meetings as well as how to run meetings effectively to get useful feedback, as well as how to help my category committee members best.
Tabby – Outdoor Rep
What advice would you give for people who are running for election this year?
JUST GO FOR IT!! Throw yourself in with enthusiasm because you’ll meet some great people through the Exec. All of the other Reps have been so lovely to work with and so funny, and it’s a great opportunity to meet others and be exposed to new activities in addition to having something great to put on your CV.
Emma – Music & Performance Rep
What do you wish you’d known before you started?
How the Union works, democratically speaking. If I’d come in armed with a better understanding of how to make change early on, I think I would have been able to get more done.
