Make Leeds your home this year: A message from your Leeds Community Officers
We appreciate it is challenging starting or returning to university this year with all the Government and health guidance.
Our elected student community officer Lotti – if you’re new, find out more about your executive officers – has been working with officers from other universities, to give you some guidance as you make Leeds your home for the first time, or once again.
Below you can read a word from Lotti (Leeds University Union), Pango (Leeds Beckett Student Union) and Christopher and Chelsey (Leeds Trinity).
“Firstly, we want you to make Leeds your comfortable home while you study. A great home is a place you want to be and it helps to get on with the neighbours.
With the Government restrictions brought on by this challenging year, as well as helping the neighbours smile, there’s a lot more to think about:
Make sure you are happy in your (potentially) smaller social circles
Enjoy your time in your university accommodation (your new household)
Find out about what you can do outside in your union, your university and your town
It would be easy to think about the negatives but we encourage you to:
Smile and say hello to your neighbours when you see them (even when behind a mask),
Be aware of the group restrictions – you do not want to add a Police fine to your student debt!
Make the most of your time with your household – cook a meal together, go for a walk outdoors – and be supportive,
And if you do run into problems, your union can help!”
Set up during lockdown as a way for Leeds students to connect and share stories of positivity, it’s continued to be a brilliant hub for students to share ideas and resources, and to find a sense of community and belonging during this unusual time.
If you’re experiencing any issues or just need to get something off your chest, our Help and Support team is here to help.
