Welcome, and congratulations, to all incoming freshers to the University of Leeds! All of us at the LUU LGBT* Society hope that you have an excellent first year ahead, and are looking forward to seeing you at our Freshers Week events.
The LGBT* Society here at Leeds University Union is here to make your time at University as fun and enjoyable as possible. We are one of the most socially active societies within Leeds University Union (LUU) and anyone is welcome to join and come along to our events. The LGBT Society provides its members with a great opportunity to reach out and explore the LGBT+ community of Leeds and beyond.
Every weekday of term we hold Coffee Hour (12PM - 2PM) upstairs in the union building (the door often has a rainbow flag on it to signal which one we occupy). For 2016/2017 Coffee Hour will be restarting on Monday 26th September, and we look forward to seeing you there. There are also a few coffee hours running during both the International Freshers Fair and during the generic Freshers Week as well (look under "Events" for more information). Feel free to help yourself to as much tea, coffee, hot chocolate, squash or water as you like in an inclusive environment that is tolerant of everyone. If, however, you find yourself in a situation where you are not able to get to coffee, or day time socialising just is not enough we have a very busy social calendar packed with an array of exciting events throughout the year. From regular club nights, to film screenings, workshops and even trips to other cities. Every year we also host the LGBT* Summer Fling, an annual evening of entertainment, food and drink for our society members.
We also host a successful regular club night in the Union, called 'Curious?' This runs multiple times a year, and will be returning again in 2016/2017, with the first event being during Freshers' Week, so keep your eyes peeled for more information from our Facebook and Twitter pages, or from the Union.
We are also are here to provide support and act as a welfare body to LGBT* students. Whether you want to talk about LGBT* matters or anything else our committee runs with five active Welfare Officer roles, who alongside the rest of the committee are here to run Office Hours; time set aside for you to come and chat about anything in confidence. You can email our welfare officers in confidentiality on the dedicated welfare email - email@example.com.
We have our own Facebook Group, Twitter Feed, and generic email:
- Facebook LUU LGBT Society
- We also have a secret Facebook group for members that would like total anonimity. If you contact one of the committee members on Facebook we will add you to this group as it cannot be accessed without an invitation.
- Twitter Leeds Uni Union LGBT
- Email firstname.lastname@example.org

We have also been a part of the "It Gets Better" project and other projects promoting the welfare of LGBT* people all around the world. See our "It Gets Better" video below:
We are looking forward to seeing you all throughout the year. Within the society we know you'll find some great friends to spend your time at Leeds with. With the dedication of the committee and your involvement we will make you love your time at Leeds!
Membership costs just £8, and our membership cards can be used to get you great discounts at various shops and LGBT* venues in Leeds! All you have to do to join is click the blue button at the top of the page that says "Join this Society" and then you can pick up a membership card at any of our events from one of the committee members.
