What we’re all about
We are a group of students who are passionate about theatre and live events. We provide voluntary technical theatre services to Leeds University Union performance societies, mainly working in The Riley Smith Theatre. We have a wide range of opportunities available to our members, including:
- Production Management
- Sound Design and Engineering
- Lighting Design and Assistants
- Set Design and Construction
- Stage Management
- House Management and Front of House
We normally work on 10-15 shows a year which means there are plenty of opportunities to get involved! We are proud to describe ourselves as a learning society, so don't worry if you have little or no experience - we can teach you everything you need to know for our general crew roles. We welcome new members anytime during the whole year as crew calls come out all year round.
International freshers fair: Friday 20th September
Freshers fair: Wednesday 25th September
We will be waiting to meet you in the Riley Smith Theatre, located in the Union. Feel free to come and say hi and find out a bit more about what we do. You can also contact us through our Facebook page or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Give it a Go (GIAG)
Come along and try any of our departments for yourself at our GIAG on 12th October, 4-6 pm, in our home - the Riley Smith Theatre.
We will be having another GIAG at the beginning of February, so stay tuned for more news.
Backstage isn't just about the theatre, we also run a number of socials, particularly during our show weeks. Particular favourites include Fruity Fridays and ice-cream nights.
We also run a trip once a year- affectionately known as Backstage on Tour. Once exams are over for the summer, we travel to a musical of our choice, have some drinks and enjoy a great ending to the year.
We post all the news on our Facebook page and Instagram, so don't forget to follow and like us there.
