Outdoor Cinema: Queen & Slim: Black History Month Screening

9 October 2020, 7:00 pm-9:00 pm
Chancellor's Court, University Of Leeds

As the new academic year begins, enjoy brilliant movies this autumn – at a brand-new outdoor screen located within the University of Leeds campus. With socially distanced seating and thorough cleaning between screenings – tickets for this new outdoor cinema are just £4. Returning from an uninspiring first date, Queen (Jodie Turner-Smith) and Slim (Daniel Kaluuya) are pulled over by a hot-headed police officer. The situation escalates, leaving Queen with a bullet wound and the officer dead. With Cuba as a loose destination for escape, the newly fledged bandits take to the road to evade the growing army of police searching for them, as their crimes and confidence increases. Unbeknownst to them, the footage of their altercation with the officer has gone viral, igniting mass protests over police brutality towards African Americans. The hotly anticipated feature film directorial debut from two-time Grammy winner Melina Matsoukas (Insecure, Master of None), and writer Lena Waithe (Master of None).
