About this event

Take a well-earned afternoon break with PhD researchers from across campus. Talk about your work and find opportunities for collaboration, or just don’t, either is fine by us. We’ll be there to talk informally about any challenges you’re facing and we’ll have ideas about how you can overcome them.

This year's PhTea events are themed around the idea of 'Research in the Public Realm'. This month we're welcoming Calum Carson, a doctoral researcher in LUBS. Calum's research focuses on the business case for the Living Wage campaign, through a case study analysis of three accredited Living Wage Employers who have adopted the measure in recent years. He also has held a position at the International Labour Organisation in Geneva, Switzerland, focusing on research surrounding non-standard forms of employment and the implications of the growth of precarious work within the burgeoning “gig economy”. Calum will be talking about how his research is inherently public facing and the real-world impact his work has on business practices through research, policy and work with local charities.
