Confidentiality & Conflicts of Interest

As your Union’s Advice team we are completely independent from the University and keep your confidentiality. Here’s a breakdown of our confidentiality policy and how we handle cases.


All the information we take from you remains confidential and is stored securely in line with data protection legislation. We will not share anything you tell us without your permission, unless we feel there is a serious risk to the safety of you or another or if we are required to share any information by law.  If this was to happen we would normally discuss this with you first.

Our confidentiality policy also includes the University. We work very closely and have a good relationship with the University but we are a separate organisation and we will always get your consent before talking to them.

We also need consent from you to speak to your parents. We can give general information but we will not normally discuss cases with them, or give them advice instead of you.

Conflict of Interest

We aim to ensure that any student can get help from us. If there are cases that a conflict of interest could be possible e.g. a household dispute then different advisers can support each group. In certain cases where the conflict may involve LUU e.g. complaints or disciplinary action, we may refer you to an external support service.
