What we’re all about
Welcome to SLAVsoc, now in its 100th year! At SLAVsoc (the Russian & Slavonic Languages Society), we're a society for those studying Russian or a Slavonic language, or for students from the countries themselves. It's a great way to meet people from all years in university, ask about the year abroad experience, and have a good time. Some of our events focus on Slavonic culture, like U Samovara mentioned below, whilst others, namely the pub quizzes and house parties, are a great way of relaxing after a busy week and making friends.
Our weekly U Samovara meet-up, with coffee, tea & biscuits, takes place on Friday's from 12pm to 3pm in the GRASS Foyer, Michael Sadler Building. It's always free to attend and a nice way to meet SLAVsoc members from other years.
For other events, please join our Facebook group as mentioned below.
Our pub quizzes are infamous for being huge! Our first place prizes have included a self-tanning tent, a year's supply of toilet roll, and of course vodka! We organise ice-skating trips, karaoke nights, Russian film nights, bowling and much more! We even had a talk from a soviet astronaut last year!
And not forgetting our involvement in the huge Modern Languages Ball every year.
All our upcoming events are posted on our social media.
