What we’re all about
The Howard League are the oldest penal reform charity in the UK, established in 1866 and named after John Howards, one of the first prision reformers. The Howard League work toward less crime, safer communities and fewer people in prison.
They work with parliament and the media, with criminal justice professionals, students and members of the public, influencing debate and forcing through meaningful change to create safer communities. Together we campaign on a wide range of issues such as short term prison sentence, real work inside prisons, community sentences, youth justice and resources inside prisons.
