What we’re all about
We are the Performing Arts Society at Leeds University Union, created to ensure that anyone wishing to learn how to dance, sing and act can do so, in a casual and fun environment can do so. We pride ourselves on being the only non-auditioning, all-inclusive society which offers a range of weekly workshops where we will learn all sorts of stage skills and will work towards our annual showcase with classes from teachers and professionals from the industry. We will be welcoming feedback and suggestions form our students along the way next year to keep improving and be the society our members want us to be, as we are essentially here to have a good time.
For our latest updates follow us on Instagram @luuperformingarts and like our page on facebook, LUU Performing Arts Society
Our classes are as follows:
Tuesdays: 8.00-9.30pm Michael Sadler LG10 (singing and drama)
Saturdays: 6.00-7.30 Sky and Scarlet Studio in the Union (dance)
The committee will teach some of the sessions, but we also have an external singing teacher and plan on holding specialised workshops to improve technique.
Our membership will be available to buy from the end of September onwards by clicking on the 'BUY MEMBERSHIP' button at the top right-hand side corner of this page. The cost of membership is currently at £30 which must be purchased prior to attending any classes. Our GIAG does not require membership and a small contribution of £1 will be collected on the door but membership will be compulsory after 8th October. Additional costs may be required throughout the year for example, when we get in professional teachers. Please note that refunds will not be possible at this stage.
Not sure about joining? Come along to our official Give It A Go session on Saturday 5th October at Sky Studio in the Union 6-7:30pm (here we will be focusing on dance). However, our first class back will be held on Tuesday 1st October in Michael Sadler LG10 8-9.30pm, so if you are free we would love to see you. It will give you a good insight into what we do and you will be able to meet the committee. If you can only attend one of these dates then don't worry! Also, if you miss both you are welcome to attend any class before 9th October without membership, or just drop us a message.
We plan to have a great variety of weekly socials, from trips to see musicals to nights out, but we will make sure we have both drinking and non-drinking events so that everyone feels welcome. We will always be open to feedback and suggestions.
