Plastic Free By 2023 Update

Plastic Free By 2023 Update

We pledged to be plastic free by 2023, and progress is going well. Since September, we’ve saved over 10,000 disposable cups and lids in our outlets, and we haven’t ordered any new plastic straws since October 2017.

We’d like to do a big shout out to our Common Ground customers especially - you brought your own cup for your hot drink over 6,000 times in the last six months.

If you bring your own cup to any of our cafe outlets, you’ll receive 10% off your hot drink and lots of you have been snapping up this offer.

You can bring a mug of any shape or size to receive your hot drink, and if you haven’t got one already you can buy an LUU Keep Cup in our outlets.

Chris Morris, Union Affairs Officer at Leeds University Union said: “It’s been great to see the steps everyone has taken to reduce their use of single-use plastic. We know we’ve still got some way to go to achieve our pledge to be single use plastic free by 2023, but we are already making some really positive steps everyday to reduce the impact we have on the world.“

We’re celebrating that our journey to being plastic free has got off to such a great start and want to thank our members for doing your bit for the environment.
