A Word From Your Exec About Next Week's Industrial Action

Student Exec

Next week, from Wednesday 11th - Friday 13th, the University and College Union (UCU) is holding three days of industrial action across campus to protest changes to employment practice which they say will inhibit academic freedom and make it easier to dismiss academic staff.

The industrial action will consist of a three-day strike from members of UCU, which may have an impact on lectures and classes in your School. The University has told students to expect that their timetables are going ahead as usual, but we encourage you to get in touch with your personal tutor or School to find out how you may be affected or if you have any concerns.

Leeds University Union’s services will be operating as normal throughout this time as will most of the University’s non-academic services and facilities. If you would like to find out more about why this industrial action is taking place, UCU will be hosting stalls in Union Square of the Union building on Monday and Tuesday and are open to questions and feedback.

UCU will also be hosting a ‘Teach Out’ during the days of the strike (Wednesday to Friday). This will consist of alternative educational sessions hosted by members of UCU which are free for students to attend, more information can be found here.

If you experience any problems or have wider concerns which affect you personally, contact Help & Support in the Union for advice and information. Alternatively, the Student Exec are here if you have any further questions.

Much love,

The Exec
