Feed Your Flat with LUU Co-op: Spaghetti Bolognese
You might have seen our new ‘Feed Your Flat’ series over on Instagram, where we show you easy, affordable recipes to feed your flat for less than £10. All the ingredients are available from the LUU Co-op store, making picking up dinner as convenient as can be. If you prefer to work off a written recipe, we’re publishing them here too so you can use whatever works best for you.

Next in the series is a classic comforting spaghetti bolognese, a sure-fire winner with students across Leeds. This recipe should come in at just £6.77 when food shopping at Co-op!
Oil, salt and pepper
Garlic bread or salad, to serve
Finely chop your onion and garlic, then set aside.
Fry the mince in a large pan until it’s brown. Season with salt and pepper and set aside.
Sauté the chopped onion and garlic for a few minutes until they start to go golden, then add the browned mince back to the pan.
Add the two tins of chopped tomatoes, plus any herbs and stock you’re using. Give it all a good mix, then leave it to simmer for 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally. If it starts looking a bit dry, add a splash of water or stock to get it back to the desired consistency.
When you have 10 minutes to go, boil your spaghetti for 8-10 minutes, and if you’re having garlic bread too, get it cooked according to the instructions on the packet.
Have a taste of the bolognese sauce and adjust the seasoning if required.
Drain your pasta and serve topped with bolognese sauce. Sprinkle over some cheese, and buon appetito!
