Meet the Candidates: Union Affairs and Communications Officer

Campaigning has officially kicked off for LeadLUU 2022, and it’s time for you to decide who you’ll be voting for when the polls open next week. 

Every candidate has written up a statement and created a poster to outline their policies and priorities if they win the election, which you can find over on our voting site. These statements are the very best way to help you decide who to vote for next week, with detailed information about what each candidate will work to change should they be elected. There’s also a Question Time event taking place on Tuesday 22 February, which is the perfect opportunity to understand what each candidate is all about.

Here, we’ve chatted to lots of our candidates about all things LUU, to give you a closer look at who will represent you best – even down to their Old Bar order! To ensure you’re engaging with everyone’s campaigns, be sure to visit this page.

Voting opens on Monday 28 February, and closes at 7pm on Thursday 3 March. Right now, it’s time to decide who you’ll be cheering on.

Course: Theatre and Performance BA

Your top policy priority in a sentence?

Improve room and storage information at the Union to make its spaces more equal and more accessible.

Favourite club or society?

Jazz and Blues Society (very biased, I was the President!)

Balcony or Common Ground?

Common Ground any day (when I can find a seat).

Big night at Fruity or a chilled evening elsewhere?

Big night at Fruity IF they play some good tunes.

Laidlaw or Eddy B?

Laidlaw (again when I can find a seat).

What’s it called: bacon or wiggly lines?

Bacon.

Ultimate potato stack topping or favourite food from an LUU outlet?

Poke bowl from Waki Maki, sorry but the Poke Bowl with that seaweed they have just slaps different.

Favourite spot on campus?

I like the Roger Stevens pond with the cool statue, even when no one else does.

And the big one – why should students vote for you?

Students should vote for me as I have lots of great ideas I would love to bring to both the university and the other student execs in order to really re-launch the social aspect of coming to Leeds. As students, yes we have work to get on with on our courses, but we came here for the nightlife and events all across the city and we all know we haven’t had the full experience the last few years: I want to change that!

To make LUU for the students again with more funding from the University, support desks around campus, improved online portals and fighting for better medical services.

Women in Leadership Society.

Because I have the passion and determination to remove the obstacles that stop us from getting the educational and everyday life experience that we are paying for.
