LUU Coronavirus Hardship Fund – How We’re Helping Students

At the outset of the coronavirus outbreak in the UK, Leeds University Union established a monetary fund dedicated to providing students in need with short term financial support for essentials during lockdown.

So far we have awarded £2,775 – an average payment of £308 per applicant, most often to cover the costs of food, bills and medication for our students and their dependants. Every payment has been made within a week, and we’ve also been giving recipients advice about longer term help, and pointing those who didn’t meet our criteria this time round in the direction of alternative sources of support.

Below, we take a look at a handful of case studies of students we’ve been able to support during this time.

If you’re experiencing financial hardship at the hands of covid-19 and are unable to meet your essential living costs, please contact us at to see if we can help.
