We’ve been able to assist people from every corner of our student population – support is available to UK, EU and international students studying at an undergraduate, postgraduate taught or postgraduate research level. Payments are for four weeks of costs and applicants must be able to demonstrate a financial shortfall over the upcoming four week period.
- A UK undergraduate student was rendered unable to work due to lockdown, and their employer has been unable to furlough them due to the Government’s rules. The student’s family has also had their income cut, meaning they couldn’t offer financial support to cover the shortfall. LUU was able to provide money to cover costs for food and bills for four weeks.
- Another UK undergraduate student was similarly unable to work and ineligible for furlough. In this instance, family estrangement and its resulting lack of family financial support meant that LUU provided both short term basic living costs and support to apply to the University’s Hardship Fund for medium term help.
- We also supported an international research postgraduate student and their family after covid-19 meant they didn’t receive their expected scholarship payment in March. LUU provided the family with emergency financial help towards their essential living costs in the absence of this payment.
- An EU undergraduate student who had previously been supported by their family fell into financial difficulty when coronavirus meant their family lost their income, and travel restrictions meant they couldn’t return home. The LUU Coronavirus Hardship Fund helped with essential living costs such as food and medication for four weeks.
