Represent Your Union at the NUS Conferences

NUS delegate nominations are now open from 5 November until 30 November. This is your chance to gain some great experience, meet new people and influence important future NUS policy.

Every year, LUU sends delegates to the annual National Conference as well as Liberation Conferences for LGBT+, Trans, Women, Disabled and Black students. You could represent your union by entering into the nominations this month. Voting then takes place between 3-7 December.

If you get voted in then you’ll become an NUS delegate for LUU with an ambition to promote, defend and extend students’ rights while shaping the future of the NUS. Plus, when you attend a conference the accommodation and expenses are on us.

What is the NUS?

In case you haven’t come across NUS yet, the NUS (National Union of Students) is the national representative body for students and just like you’re a member of your students union, your students union is a member of NUS. The NUS aims to represent over 7 million students in the UK.

How does it work?

In the UK, the NUS is governed by the National Executive Council, the NUS UK Board and by an annual National Conference.

Students debate issues and decide future NUS policy at the National Conference which is attended by representatives from over 600 student unions in the UK. There are also other conferences for specific issues which fall under three categories: Nation, Liberation, Section.

The National Executive Council is made up of members elected at the NUS conferences.

The NUS UK Board is made up of: The National President, six SU Officer Directors, four NUS Officer Directors, four External Directors.

Why is it important?

The NUS is the largest voice for students in the UK so it’s important that we feed into their policy and campaigns. By sending delegates to NUS conferences we make sure that you can represent Leeds University Union and have your say.
