What we’re all about
We are a departmental society aimed at integrating all divisions and years that are a part of the School of Mechanical Engineering. But we don’t stop there, anyone interested in mechanical engineering is more than welcome to join!
Joining is a great way to meet other people on your course, as well as those with similar interests. The best way to stay up to date with what we have planned is to like our LUU Mechanical Engineering Society Facebook page and turn notifications on!
Our 2018-2019 aims are to:
- Put on a large variety and number of socials
- Develop and strengthen links with industry
- Get more people involved in intramural sports
- Provide exclusive merchandise
- Improve your time at Leeds
We hope to achieve all this by collaborating with the school, other engineering societies and yourselves!
If you are interested in getting involved or have any questions feel free to message us on Facebook or send an email to email@example.com.

This year we want to put on a bigger range of socials, including a variety of both new and old ideas! We know that everyone is different, so as well as the usual Otley Runs and Fruity Fridays, we will be putting on pub quizes, paintball day outs and trips to see Leeds Rhinos play in order to ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy. We also have plans to join up with other engineering societies for bigger and better socials throughout the year. Ideas are always welcome!
Last year we held:
Meet and Greet - At the end of September more than 80 engineers took over Revolutions for our Meet and Greet social which was a great way to meet some new people and to start the new uni year.
Engineering Otley Run - We joined up with other engineering societies to put on the biggest Otley Run Leeds has seen. Only a brave few made it to the end but everyone had a good night.
Pub Quiz - On October 17th we ran our pub quiz in the union. With over 50 people taking part we managed to raise £60 for the Leeds Children's Charity and the winners went home with chocolates and 5 bottles of prosecco.
Paintball - The Mech Eng Soc vs Shock Soc paintball day was a muddy but great day out for everyone who went and provided many thrills.
Fruity Social - Hard to go wrong with a fruity social, especially when we gave out a free drinks token to everyone that was a member.
Christmas Meal - We held a very successful Christmas meal at Revs which was a good last social of the year!
NI Pub Quiz - National Instruments ran their pub quiz for us again this year with both staff and student teams taking part.
5-A-Side Football Tournament GIAG - Our 5-a-side football tournament was a great success with over 90 players taking part in 16 different teams. Over the two hours nealy 50 games were played and 50 Shades of O'Shea were crowned the overall winners at the end!
Engineering Spring Ball - The Engineering societies jointly put on the Engineering Spring Ball at the end of March! Held at the Queens hotel it included a red carpet entrance, 3 course meal, wine, professional photographer, DJ and a live band.
Mech Eng FC offers competitive football in a relaxed environment. If you're interested in playing regular football whilst making friends with people from all years of our course then look no further! For more information on the teams league progress and socials drop us a message.
Our members currently play in a joint Engineering netball team with players from Civil, Chemical and Electrical Engineering. They play every Tuesday with training later in the week and are keen for any new members. For any more info or to join the team just send us a message!
Engineering Rugby finds the right balance between competitive sport and socialising and all abilities are welcome. They train every Wednesday in Hyde Park and play competitive games against other intramural teams as well as teams playing in the Yorkshire leagues. Socials are a big part of the team, with a number being put on throughout the year as well as after most matches.
