liberation: a liberating or being liberated. The seeking of equal status or just treatment for or on behalf of any group believed to be discriminated against.
As part of a team of Liberation Coordinators, you will work to highlight the needs of marginalised communities on (and off) campus. You will make a positive change by taking a lead on LUU’s History Month activity, running campaigns, taking part in Better Forums and lobbying for better services, provisions and equalities. You will get the chance to attend NUS Liberation Conference, and access to a year long training programme (as well as online training) within LUU.
You will collaborate closely with the Equality & Liberation Officer and receive support from the staff in the Political Engagement Team. This volunteer role requires about 4 hours per week time commitment, likely more during History Months, although this entirely depends on what training, campaigns, policy or events you want to put on. You’ll need to be organised, motivated and passionate in bringing about change for students.
To apply you must self identify into one (or more) of the following liberation groups: Black & Minority Ethnic, Disabled, LGBQ+, Trans*, Women and Working Class.
If you have any questions please email the Political Engagement Team on LUU.PET@leeds.ac.uk
