We have recently reformed our IT department into two teams, Devices & Infrastructure and Platforms, creating specialist areas of responsibility to better support our changing use of digital systems and technology.

The platforms team will be staffed by one manager initially, and as Platforms Manager you will support LUU’s system owners:

  • During the procurement of new platforms
  • During implementation and rollout of new systems, including providing training to end users and administrators
  • By keeping abreast of new features and functionality within platforms and communicating these effectively
  • By providing a bridge between suppliers and system owners during the resolution of issues or bugs

You will also maintain the LUU register of all data stored in our systems and work with the Director of Digital and Communications to keep oversight of the cost and strategic impact of all our systems use.

The role requires a ‘hybrid’ approach – part project manager, part systems administrator and part trainer. A background in development is not necessary but a passion for software and platforms is, including an affinity for scoping and understanding new digital platforms.

A new kind of role for LUU, the Platforms Manager will develop experience working with a huge variety of platforms, including:

  • Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) providers;
  • Hosted systems including ‘migrate to the cloud’ projects,
  • Embedded systems (ePOS/tills)
  • CCTV platforms

These span the wide range of student union applications from food retail to bars, and the role will enable the successful applicant to develop the latest skills in user experience, business requirements and technical implementation.
