Beginners are always welcome

The best way to find out about Jiu-Jitsu is to come along to one of our sessions. Starting a martial art may be daunting but even our instructors were beginners once so at the the club we provide a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where members can progress at their own pace.

Your first session is completely FREE! All you need to do is wear loose clothing and bring enthusiasm! Why not bring a friend, you'll even get another free session!

GIAG- Sunday 9th October, 14:30-16:30 at Studio 2, The Edge.
Our GIAG is the best way to get to know people and learn about all things Jitsu. Experience your first throw, lock and bottle attack. And its completely FREE! And to make things even better, your first session afterwards is also completely free - just in case one session wasn't enough to convince you!

Why learn Jiu Jitsu?

Jiu Jitsu is a self defence martial art that uses a system of throwing, locking and striking based on traditional forms from medieval Japan. By using the aggressor's energy against them, Jiu Jitsu can be used by men, women and children to counter any aggressive situation.

Jiu Jitsu helps develop not just skills in self defence, but also your strength, fitness and posture. Over time people find that Jiu-Jitsu helps to improve self-esteem and self-confidence. It is also a great way to have fun and meet new friends.

Our club has a vibrant social life with events throughout the year. There is also the opportunity to attend regional, national and international courses and competitions. Socials include: BBQs, Bowling, Games Nights, Pubs, Meals and our popular Drink To A Dan.

At the 2012 Atemi Nationals, LUU Jiu Jitsu won the club shield making us officially the best club in the country. This status has been further reinforced by our TJF Club of the Year award. Also regularly winning the regional social shield, currently maintaining our winning status. Nominated multiple times at The Riley Awards, winning multiple medals at national events annually, and holding a 19 times 100% pass rate at gradings! Winning 2016's Yorkshire Club of the Year and placing 2nd in the Christie Cup.

All members of the club wishing to train for long periods of time must be insured. The first two weeks of training are free but afterwards a fee of £30 must be paid to The Jitsu Foundation. This insurance lasts a year and means that you are insured not only at LUU Jiu-Jitsu club but also at regional and national events and other TJF clubs in the UK.
