Leeds University Archery Society is a fun and friendly group that is happy to welcome all, from those who wish to experience something new to the more experienced archers wanting to continue shooting throughout university.

We have some great coaches who attend our sessions to support each and every member of the society, whether you wish to shoot competitively or recreationally. Our members shoot a wide range of bow types, from the Olympic style recurve to the English longbow, so we welcome all archers. We provide basic recurve equipment to use in sessions, so to all those new to the sport there is no need to worry about kitting up before arriving!

Training information and times

All indoor training sessions will be held in Cromer Terrace sports centre (near the Students' Union at the back of the Refectory) and will take place during term time all year long.
Cromer Terrace information: http://www.teachingspace.leeds.ac.uk/building_details.asp?ID=33
Session times:

  • Monday 8pm-10pm
  • Wednesday 7pm-9pm
  • Wednesday 9pm-10pm (Experienced archers only)
  • Friday 7pm-10pm (INVITATION ONLY)

Please be aware that you NO LONGER NEED A SPORTS PASS. For all pre-booked sessions you no longer require any kind of Edge Membership to join in, saving you around £80. All you need to get stuck in is a membership with our society which can be bought on this webpage.

IMPORTANT for beginners

If you are a beginner and want to start shooting with us, please make sure that you attend a Give it a Go session or come to the first few sessions of the semester you choose to join in. This is because all beginners need to commit to a beginners course which lasts for 6 weeks. This ensure that you have received all the basic training needed to be safe to shoot on your own without the supervision of a coach. We will close membership around 3 weeks into term to ensure that no one joins late and consequently miss the training for the beginner’s course.

Outdoor training

From around Easter (when the weather is better) we also shoot outdoors at Weetwood Sports Fields on Saturdays from 11am-4pm, but we will email all members closer to the time about these sessions.

Give it a Go sessions

We hold two Give it a Go sessions at the start of the first semester and two at the start of the second semester, so if you miss the freshers' fair do not worry as you can come and give archery a try later on in the year.
There tends to be a high demand for tickets so make sure you get yours early! Tickets are £3 and can be bought from the Events tab or GIAG section of the site.
