What we’re all about
Dancesport is open to everyone to gain new skills or improve their Latin and Ballroom ability. We pride ourselves in being a society that welcomes undergraduates, postgraduates, and ex-students alike. Professional instruction is available from Dale Bennett and his team from City Limits Dance. No experience is necessary, so be prepared to meet new people and learn to dance! You’ll also get the chance to compete for the university throughout the year with our National competition at the Winter Gardens Ballroom in Blackpool.
Our classes are focused on enjoyment and member satisfaction whist learning all 10 dances. The classes are: Beginners Class – Tuesday 7.30pm-9pm for anyone that already has experience our Thursday evening class is for you 7pm-10pm. Classes are £5 for non-members and free for members.
We are a keen participant of the annual LUU Dance Show. Each year we aim to hold a Christmas and Spring Ball. Socials are always on the cards including Bowling, Otley runs and BBQs. We aim to cater for everyone, so any ideas you may have just speak to our Social and Welfare Officer.
Our annual membership costs just £70. This covers the cost of weekly classes with professional tuition, plus lots of bonuses including subsidised private tuition discount, subsidised Dancesport Ball tickets and access to weekly practice space. We also offer a membership just for one semester, which costs £40. One thing we ask is that, to compete, you MUST be a member of the club.
If you've never danced before and worry you don't have any of the clothing or shoes, don't worry. At competitions all dresses for women are provided for with a range of sizes and styles we can cater to most dancers. In October-November time the society does a big shoe order, a great and affordable way to get yourself a pair of ballroom/latin shoes.
