Our aim is to help conserve and maintain the natural environment in the local area; this can involve anything from chopping down invasive trees, planting native species, creating microhabitats or maintenance of our pond and paths.

We also organise trips throughout the year to help out conservation groups across the UK, these have been to the Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales and Flamborough Head. We have a brilliant annual trip to the Peak District which is a fun weekend spent in the beautiful countryside working alongside the local rangers clearing, chopping and protecting the natural environment - this normally involves building a great big bonfire! It is a very rewarding trip and is a great way to meet some lovely new people.

LUUCV also organise regular social events, which include Otley runs and nature walks!

A few highlights from the last year 2018/19 include:

  • working with local organisations such as WRAG, Friends of Meanwood, friends of the Hollies and the RSPB
  • Beach clean in Bridlington with the Marine Conservation Society
  • film screenings and socials
  • a trip to the Peak District in early December
  • a trip to Hardknott Forest in the Lake District in March
  • lots of conservation work in Leeds' green spaces
  • ...and much more!

So put on your old clothes, grab your wellies, and join LUU Conservation Volunteers!!

We meet most Sundays and some Saturdays, joining with local volunteering groups at various locations around the Leeds area, including WRAG and Friends of the Hollies.

These tasks vary, but the majority of the time we meet outside Parkinson Building at 10am and have a full day of conservation.

The best way to find out what we are doing is via our Facebook page, where we create 'events' for all the tasks and socials we hold.

If you have any accessibilty concerns about our activities or a particular event, then please send us an email or message us on Facebook for more information or to make appropriate arrangements.
