Conservation Volunteers

What we’re all about

Welcome to the LUUCV webpage! This society is perfect for anyone who loves the outdoors, nature, wildlife and environmental conservation. What's more, membership is FREE!!!

LUUCV acts as a mobile work force, joining various conservation groups for tasks around Leeds, as well as working on our own site at Woodhouse Ridge. All information on our trips and tasks is posted on our Facebook page, so follow us there to keep up-to-date!

Our aim is to help conserve and maintain the natural environment in the local area; this can involve anything from chopping down invasive trees and planting native species, to creating micro-habitats or maintaining our pond and paths.

Trips Away

We also organise trips throughout the year to help out conservation groups across the UK. These included going to the Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales and Flamborough Head. The annual trip to the Peak District comprises of a fun weekend spent in the beautiful countryside, working alongside the local rangers  to clear, chop and protect the natural environment, usually culminating in the building of a great big bonfire! The trips are both rewarding and a great way to meet new people.

LUUCV also organise regular social events, which include Otley runs, games nights, environmental film/documentary screenings and nature walks!

A few highlights from the last year 2018/19 included:

  • working with local organisations such as WRAG, Friends of Meanwood, Friends of the Hollies and the RSPB
  • a beach clean in Bridlington with the Marine Conservation Society
  • film screenings and socials
  • a trip to the Peak District in early December
  • a trip to Hardknott Forest in the Lake District in March
  • lots of conservation work in Leeds' many green spaces
  • ...and much more!

So put on your old clothes, grab your wellies, and join LUU Conservation Volunteers!!

Events in general...

We meet most Sundays and some Saturdays, joining with local volunteering groups at various locations around the Leeds area.

These tasks vary, but the majority of the time we meet outside Parkinson Building at 10am and have a full day of conservation.

The best way to find out what we are doing is via our Facebook Page, where we create 'events' for all the tasks and socials we hold.

If you have any accessibility concerns about our activities or a particular event, then please send us an email or message us on Facebook for more information or to make appropriate arrangements.
