1XV
The first team are a highly developed, performance team who welcome all sorts of players, new and old. They participate in the Northern 1a league and the BUC’s cup tournament every year. The league involves travelling to places such as Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield just to name a few. The cup games involve further travel, such as the University of Stirling in Scotland which was fundraised for to cover all the travel costs.
2XV
The second team was introduced in the 2018/2019 season and have grown from strength to strength. This team gives players new to rugby union the chance to participate in full contact matches, whilst still focussing on developing the core skills and game knowledge. The team plays in Northern 4a along with teams such as Huddersfield and Northumbria 2XV.
Development
The development team allows members with no game knowledge become comfortable on the pitch where games involve slow and steady contact, with the referee usually stopping games to talk players through phases and techniques. This team is open to anyone and everyone and is perfect for anyone wanting to learn a new sport, or those not too comfortable in game environments yet.
Freshers
Google Meet- Wednesday 23rd September 9:45-10:30
Freshers’ Fair Stall- Wednesday 23rd September 10:00-12:00
Freshers’ Training Day- Sunday 27th September
Training
All teams train together at Weetwood Sports Park on the large 3G pitch (near Oxley Residences). We currently train on a Monday, either 5-6 or 6-7pm (everyone is allocated a slot weekly as we are currently capped at 30 per session due to COVID). We also are playing in a Social League on Wednesdays where we play eachother at Ready4Rugby (a touch style rugby game). This is either at Weetwood Sports Park or Boddington Playing fields, with KO’s at 1pm and 2pm. We hope to play in the BUCS leagues as normal in January, COVID dependent!
Key Events
Christie Cup- a tournament involving every sport between the University of Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool
Varsity- all sports from the University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University compete to become the overall varsity winners. Last year we played in Headingley Stadium alongside the men’s team for the first time in history!
Alumni day- when we welcome the old girls who have graduated back to play against the current players. This weekend usually involves fruity, a bank holiday and lots of rugby
Membership
Membership is £48 for the entire year which includes coaching, strength and conditioning, socials, match pints for players of the matches and access to physiotherapy and sports massages.
Socials
We hold lots of socials throughout the year and we believe this is the best way for team bonding. These usually include Otley runs, Wednesday’s at revs, Friday pub club, sober socials at restaurants, bowling, trampoline parks, and before match meals, just to name a few. The friendships you make off the pitch will last a lifetime. Currently, we are hosting weekly online socials on Zoom!
Tour
Ask any old girl and this is the best week of the entire year. This is where you spend a week in the sun, with your new best friends, making a fool out of yourself (if you wish). Every night involves a different fancy dress and a different bar. The days include pool parties, boat parties, beach parties….. oh and lots of rugby!
