Senior Performance Squads
If you are an experienced rower, and want to compete at prestigious events such as the Head of the River and Women’s Head of the River, Henley Women’s Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta, join the senior performance squad to represent the University in these and BUCS events throughout the year. Training consists of two ergos, five water sessions, two strength and conditioning sessions and two conditioning circuits a week.
Senior Intermediate Squad
If you are competent in a boat, join our more relaxed Intermediate squad. This squad ranges from social rowers to athletes competing in regional races. There is no minimum commitment to training but the opportunity to row up to four times per week as well as attending club circuits and two ergo sessions.
Novice Squads
Our novice squads are open to all and no experience is required. The majority of our members learnt to row with the club at Leeds within our novice squad. Our novice squad is inclusive to all and has options for those who want to row socially, compete locally or get national success with our novice performance squad.
Our Novice Non Performance Squad have the opportunity to five water sessions a week, a weekly erg, one conditioning circuit with no minimum commitment.Our Novice Performance squads have extra training opportunities and race at BUCS events, regularly winning medals.
Coxing
If rowing is not for you… how about coxing? We welcome coxes of all experience and we will provide coxing workshops throughout the year to help develop all our coxes, allowing you to steer your crew to success.
Coaching
We offer lots of opportunities for coaching, whether at the boat club or with our partners in Gorse Boat club and Row Leeds. There are typically over 20 students within the club that regularly coach within the club.Each year we offer four students to become coaching scholars who receive funding as well as a structured development programme and funding.
Many of our students also volunteer for RowUK where they are deployed as coaches either in local state schools within indoor rowing clubs or on the water with The Gorse Boat Club or Leeds Rowing Club junior programme. Each year students have the opportunity to complete their level 2 coaching award, with many of the places being fully funded
Land/Recreational membership
If you are wanting to get involved with our large, social club but rowing on the water is not for you, why not join as a land based member? This gives you access to all of our social event ad our whole club circuit sessions which take place twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays. It will give you an insight and experience training to the standard required for rowing.
Facilities
The club trains out of Leeds Boat House which is located in Stourton in the South East of Leeds. It has a modern £1.1 million boathouse situated on a 4km stretch of canal that is safe to row throughout most the year being sheltered from winds and not prone to flooding. The club owns a fleet of 26 boats stored at the boathouse. It takes just 10 minutes driving or 20 minutes cycling to reach the boathouse from campus. There is a gym on site with 12 rowing ergometers, as well as access to 10 club ergos on campus at cromer terrace fitness suite in addition to those available in the Edge. The club also uses cromer terrace fitness suite for its circuit training sessions.

Covid-19 update
The safety of our members is paramount, therefore we are regularly consulting with LUU to ensure we can operate in a safe, socially distanced manner. We are also following the guidance of British Rowing to allow for a return to crew boats. As the guidance and situation changes so will the way we keep rowing safe for all.
