Sports
Intramural sports are the perfect opportunity for people of all abilities to compete in a range of sports without the same commitment requirements as the university teams. We currently have members involved in three different sports teams and for more information about any of them please see our Facebook page where there are links to the relevant groups.
Football:
Mech Eng FC offers competitive football in a relaxed environment. If you’re interested in playing regular football whilst making friends with people from all years of our course then look no further! For more information on the teams league progress and socials drop us a message.
Netball:
Our members currently play in a joint Engineering netball team with players from Civil, Chemical and Electrical Engineering. They play every Tuesday with training later in the week and are keen for any new members. For any more info or to join the team just send us a message!
Rugby:
Engineering Rugby finds the right balance between competitive sport and socialising and all abilities are welcome. They train every Wednesday in Hyde Park and play competitive games against other intramural teams as well as teams playing in the Yorkshire leagues. Socials are a big part of the team, with a number being put on throughout the year as well as after most matches.
Socials
This year we want to put on a bigger range of socials, including a variety of both new and old ideas! We know that everyone is different, so as well as the usual Otley Runs and pub quizzes, we will be putting on bingo nights, sporting events, etc. We know that socialising is going to be different this year and we want all our members to have a great time, so new ideas are always welcome 🙂
Last year we held:
Meet and Greet – At the end of September more than 80 engineers took over Revolutions for our Meet and Greet social which was a great way to meet some new people and to start the new uni year.
Engineering Otley Run – We joined up with other engineering societies to put on the biggest Otley Run Leeds has seen. Only a brave few made it to the end but everyone had a good night.
Pub Quizzes – Two successful pub quizzes were held in the union, with over 50 people taking part and the winners taking home a variety of chocolates and alcohol.
Fruity Socials – It’s hard to go wrong with a fruity social, especially when we gave out free drinks token to everyone that was a member.
Christmas Meal – We held a cracking Christmas meal at Revs which was a good last social of the year!
5-A-Side Football Tournament GIAG – Our 5-a-side football tournament was a huge success with over 90 players taking part in 16 different teams. Over the two hours, nearly 50 games were played with 10 free pints awarded to the winners!
