Welcome to Canoe Club

LUUCC is one of the friendliest clubs in Leeds and one of the best kayaking clubs in the UK. We pride ourselves on being welcoming to everyone, regardless of their paddling experience.

We run weekly kayak training and canoe polo sessions as well as river trips/ tournaments at the weekend. Not only that, but we run kayaking weekends away.

Membership

The annual membership includes access to the Edge pool for pool sessions, your insurance, full use of the club’s equipment (e.g. boat, paddle, wetsuit, helmet, spraydeck) and access to socials every week. We offer memberships to both students, alumni and non-students.

Socials

We run different types of socials every week. Previous socials have included activities such as Wine and Cheese Night, Wings Wednesday, Karaoke, Picnics in the park, LUUCC Ball, Games social, Pizza night, Ice skating, Club nights and Junkyard golf.  Links to our socials are posted on our Facebook page in advance! We also try to end every pool session with a trip to the pub for a short catch-up.

Training

We have kayaking training sessions on Mondays at 8:30. This is to practice or learn skills e.g. rolling.

Canoe polo sessions are on Thursdays at 8:30PM. Canoe polo is a fast-paced, semi-contact, 5-a-side game with the aim of getting a ball into the oppositions goal. We have teams competing in beginner to experienced tournaments.

We meet at Jerusalem Chapel and walk over to The Edge together.

Trips

Sunday Trips: Every Sunday of each term we run a river trip. We drive out and paddle on a river for the day. Ending the day with a trip to the pub. Each trip is designed for a specific ability level to ensure all paddlers have the opportunity to practice their skills. We have also previously done seaside trips for sea kayaking/surfing too. Tickets for each trip can be found on our shop.

Weekend Trips: We host a number of weekends away kayaking across the year. The first trip takes place in November, the second takes place in January and a final trip takes place in March. On these weekends we drive somewhere and hire a village hall (or camp, depending on location) to sleep in. These legendary weekends are spent paddling during the day and partying during the night! These weekends are not to be missed.

BUCS Weekend: Once a year we head to compete in the BUCS canoe polo, the days will be filled with competitive canoe polo, whereas the evening will be filled with a huge party. Another one to not miss out on!
