Supporting Students During COVID-19

Your Student Exec: How we are working for you.

As LUU Student Exec Officers, we have been joining Student Unions across the country in campaigning for fairer treatment of students during the COVID-19 pandemic, and for acknowledgement of the unique challenges which this third lockdown presents. We want to continue to keep you up to date on all the issues we are working on, and will regularly update these campaign pages as more detail is released, especially around academic assessment and rent refunds.

We will be meeting with Exec Officers from other Students’ Unions across the country and are sending a joint letter to Michelle Donelan and Gavin Williamson expressing our concerns. We are also engaging with Leeds MPs to seek their support.

Tuition Fees

You can take action by signing these petitions to challenge the government on University tuition fees: NUS #StudentsDeserveBetter campaign and the petition to the UK Government to refund tuition fees.

Rent relief

The University has confirmed that partial rent refunds will be available to students living in University accommodation, and we have asked that the process for transferring or leaving is made clearer and easier. We continue to work with the University, accommodation providers and private landlords on a fair refund process.

Financial Support

The University is providing up to £2m to support students facing financial hardship. This is open to all students and full details can be found on the university website. The Help and Support team at LUU can also support you in applying.

Wellbeing Support

We do not underestimate the impact the pandemic and current lockdown continues to have on students’ mental wellbeing. There are a range of resources and support services available to you through the University, including LUU Help and Support.
