Anime & Manga

What we’re all about

The Anime and Manga society is dedicated to anime (Japanese animation), manga (Japanese comics), visual novels and other aspects of East Asian popular culture. If you're unfamiliar with otakudom, you may have heard of popular anime series like Yu-Gi-Oh, Sailor Moon, Naruto and Dragon Ball.

During term time we have weekly anime showings on Thursdays between 6.30pm and 9.00pm. Our members' favourite shows in 2016/2017 included My Hero Academia, Yuri!!! on Ice, Youjo Senki, and Little Witch Academia. Check 'em out. We meet in Old Bar from 5pm for anyone who is confused about where the showings are. We also head down to the Hedley Verity for food and drinks after our showings, so it's definitely worth coming along and making wonderful new friends.

We hold a fortnightly Clubhouse event, usually at LUU Little House which allows you to chat to your fellow nerds and browse the society's extensive library with ease. We also hold semi-regular Marathon Showings (2016/17 marathons included Nichijou and sci-fi anime) which involve binge-watching anime in excellent company - there's always something going on with AnimeSoc.

Semi-Regular Events

Watch out for our weekend film days, group karaoke, Bowling trips, Cosplay & Drawing Workshops and joint events with other societies like the annual Xmas party, Thought Bubble Festival, our club night Geek Night, convention trips (last year we went to Birmingham MCM), theatrical screenings, our annual freshers tour of Leeds City Centre, and many many more.

Autumn 2017 events are TBA - check back soon.

Membership is only £4 for the year and you get 10% off everything at Travelling Man and Forbidden Planet as well as free entry to our showings and regular events.

It will also give you access to our ever expanding library of anime, manga and visual novels - featuring manga series including Berserk, Dragon Ball, Food Wars, Attack on Titan, and much, much more!
